National Archives Project: “Waterburian” a personal favorite

Waterburian Held for Reviling Flag; Another Tries to Kill Soldier

Who knew they had evening farmers in Bridgeport; but these folks had a newspaper called “The Bridgeport Evening Farmer”.

The Russian arrested for saying “to hell with the flag” was held on $1000 bond.  Mind you, no mention that he burned that flag, threatened anyone, but went on to say “America is no good.”

Meanwhile, same judge, same day: a Lithuanian gets a $2000 bond for almost killing a soldier with a gun.

Life in 1917 Connecticut, and in the Voices archives.
