From her citation: "She remained at her post and continued caring for the wounded during a violent bombardment of the hospital of BUSSY-le-CHATEAU (France) the 15-15-17 and 18th of July."
I was anxious to go. Wanted to see what war was like (and did). I would have been ashamed to have been drafted. I saw the need and didn’t believe in waiting for a “personal invitation.”
Killed in the Battle of the Marne, Cristobal's fiancee completed the questionnaire, which included an exchange of correspondence with Goddard, as well as a detailed epilogue.

Sgt. Maynard was killed on November 11, 1918. He is buried in France.
